Architect – Mainframe IMS/DB2 System Support

In this role you will get exposure to large scale mainframe platforms, critical applications and transformation activities.

To lead and provide architectural, operational and support leadership for the IMS (IBM IMS) and DB2 for z/OS (IBM DB2 for z/OS) database subsystems across critical applications.

You will ensure the availability, performance, scalability, recoverability and maintainability of these subsystems, and provide strategic direction, process governance and vendor coordination.

• Lead DB2 z/OS and IMS projects and initiatives — upgrades, tool migrations, performance enhancement, automation of routines. Apna+1
• Collaborate closely with IMS/DB2 DBAs, systems programmers and infrastructure teams to ensure all core databases are stable and tuned. Adzuna+1
• Provide DBA support to applications using IMS and DB2 transactions and databases — manage critical production issues, RCA (root cause analysis), vendor escalation. Apna+1
• Define and enforce database policies and procedures covering backup/recovery, disaster recovery (DR), maintenance windows, performance monitoring and utilisation. Simplify Jobs+1
• Manage IMS database structures (VSAM, OSAM, HALDB, Fast Path, GSAM) and DB2 storage, locking, referential integrity, utilities and recovery mechanisms. Apna+1
• Participate in on-call and 24×7 support rotations as applicable for high-availability systems. Adzuna
• Work with vendor personnel (IBM, BMC etc) for tools support (e.g., BMC COPE, IBM InfoSphere), upgrades and troubleshooting. Simplify Jobs+1
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and DBAs; drive continuous improvement and automation of routine tasks.
• Maintain technical documentation, change logs, audit records and ensure compliance with internal standards and frameworks.

• Hands-on experience with IMS Full Function, HALDB, Fast Path, GSAM, VSAM/OSAM database structures. Apna

• Proficiency with tools: BMC COPE (or equivalent for IMS/DB2), IBM InfoSphere Data Replication (CDC), Query Monitor, SQL Performance Analyzer. Simplify Jobs
• Understanding of disaster recovery (DR) planning, log archive management, DBRC utilities, forward recovery, business continuity. Apna
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field (or equivalent experience). Adzuna
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving skills and ability to coordinate across teams and vendors.

• Experience working in global/24×7 support environment.
• Working knowledge of mainframe operating system (z/OS) internals, JCL, TSO/ISPF, job scheduling, batch/online environment.
• Familiarity with mainframe modernisation efforts (migration, integration with cloud, hybrid platforms).
• Experience with vendor management and leadership in database support services.
