About the role
We are seeking an experienced Backend Architect with strong expertise in Java and distributed systems to design, develop, and evolve scalable backend platforms. The ideal candidate will drive architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and ensure the reliability, performance, and security of enterprise-grade applications.
Responsibilities:
- Design and architect scalable, resilient, and high-performance backend systems.
- Define application architecture, technology stack, and development standards.
- Lead the design and implementation of microservices-based applications.
- Collaborate with product managers, engineering teams, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Drive system design reviews, code reviews, and architecture governance.
- Optimise application performance, scalability, and availability.
- Establish best practices around coding, testing, deployment, and monitoring.
- Mentor and guide development teams on architectural patterns and technical solutions.
- Ensure security, compliance, and data protection standards are followed.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues and provide architectural solutions.
- Work closely with DevOps teams to improve CI/CD pipelines and cloud infrastructure.
Requirements:
- 10+ years of software development experience with Java.
- Strong expertise in Java 8/11/17+ features.
- Deep understanding of JVM internals, memory management, multithreading, and concurrency.
- Expertise in object-oriented design principles and design patterns.
Backend Technologies:
- Strong experience with Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Security.
- Experience designing RESTful APIs and event-driven architectures.
- Hands-on experience with microservices architecture.
- Knowledge of API gateways and service discovery.
Databases:
- Strong experience with SQL databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle Database.
- Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Cassandra, or Redis.
