About the role
As a Backend Engineer in the Core Banking team, you will help build one of the industry's most reliable and agile banking systems by leveraging Mambu, a leading cloud banking platform. You'll play a key role in shaping the future of digital banking in Japan.
Responsibilities:
- Work on digital banking domains: deposits, loans, clearing and settlements, accounting, and payment gateways.
- Collaborate with product owners to align on requirements.
- Develop, test, and deploy code with precision in monetary calculations.
- Design and build API-first, microservice-based architectures that are scalable and maintainable.
- Drive automation and continuous improvement (e. g., API testing).
- Take full ownership of the software development lifecycle.
- Share knowledge and mentor peers to foster a culture of excellence.
Requirements:
- Strong experience in Java or Kotlin, Spring Boot, SQL, and messaging platforms (Apache Kafka).
- Hands-on expertise in relational and non-relational databases.
- Experience in microservices architecture and API design.
- Ability to handle critical production incidents and provide fast fixes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with CI/CD practices and DevOps/DevSecOps culture.
- Cloud development experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Bachelor's/Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
Nice-to-Have:
- Prior experience in banking, fintech, or financial institutions.
- Introductory knowledge of accounting or double-entry bookkeeping.
- Knowledge of clearing and settlement processes.
- Japanese language proficiency.
