About the role

The core responsibilities for the job include the following:

Bookkeeping and close (India + US):

  • Own day-to-day accounting for both entities in Zoho Books: AP, AR, expense coding, accruals, prepaids, and fixed assets.
  • Run a monthly close within 7 working days, with bank reconciliations across all India and US accounts.
  • Manage intercompany transactions and reconciliations between the Indian and US entities.
  • Own revenue accounting under ASC 606: ratable subscription revenue, RCM fees, deferred and unbilled revenue.

Revenue ownership:

  • Own revenue end-to-end, making sure monthly billing is accurate, complete, and on time.
  • Review billed vs. contracted vs. collected, and track AR aging and collections.
  • Keep revenue tied out to the GL, CRM, and contract terms.

Client communication and collaboration:

  • Be the finance point of contact for client billing and invoice queries; resolve them quickly and clearly.
  • Work closely with the Customer Success team on billing changes, disputes, credits, and renewals.
  • Partner with sales, operations, and HR on anything that touches the books.

MIS and reporting:

  • Deliver a monthly MIS pack: P& L, balance sheet, cash flow, burn and runway, and department-wise spend.
  • Track vendor and category-level spend and flag variances against budget.
  • Provide accurate, reconciled data for board decks, investor updates, and due diligence.

India compliance:

  • GST: monthly/quarterly returns, 2B vs 3B vs books reconciliation, ITC, and export refund claims.
  • TDS returns and certificates, advance tax, and annual income tax filing.
  • Payroll statutory: PF, ESI, professional tax; coordinate with payroll partner.
  • ROC/MCA filings (including MSME Form 1), FEMA/RBI reporting, and transfer pricing documentation with external advisors.
  • Coordinate statutory and tax audits end-to-end.

US compliance:

  • Coordinate US federal and state tax filings, 1099s, and annual franchise/state filings with the US CPA.
  • Reconcile US payroll and benefits with the payroll provider.
  • Support US financial statement preparation and any audit or review.

Controls and process:

  • Maintain the compliance calendar so no deadline is missed.
  • Build and document SOPs, approval workflows, and internal controls.
  • Keep books diligence-ready: clean schedules, supporting documents, and a tidy data room.

What success looks like in 6 months:

  • Monthly close for both entities delivered within 7 working days, every month.
  • Zero missed statutory deadlines in India or the US.
  • Revenue accurate and billed on time every month, with client billing queries resolved within 2 working days.
  • A reliable MIS pack is used without rework.
  • All bank and intercompany accounts reconciled with no open items older than 30 days.
  • Books, schedules, and documents ready for investor due diligence on short notice.

Requirements:

  • Experience in Zoho Books is preferred.
  • Chartered Accountant (CA) with 7-10 years of post-qualification experience in accounting, closing, and compliance.
  • Hands-on ownership of books for a US entity alongside an Indian entity (US GAAP exposure required).
  • Strong command of Indian direct and indirect taxes: GST, TDS, income tax, and ROC filings.
  • Experience with cross-border setups: intercompany accounting, transfer pricing, and FEMA.
  • Has built or run a monthly MIS pack for founders or leadership.
  • Working knowledge of Zoho Books (or QuickBooks/Xero/Tally) and advanced Excel.
  • Strong ownership and a get-it-done attitude: hands-on in a lean team, prepares as well as reviews, and drives issues to closure.
  • Clear, client-facing communication; comfortable handling billing queries directly with US clients.

Good-to-have:

  • SaaS or tech start-up background; familiarity with ASC 606 and SaaS metrics.
  • US healthcare or healthtech exposure.
  • Has been through a fundraise, audit, or investor due diligence.
  • Experience setting up controls and processes from scratch.
