About the role

About Wahed: The global financial system wasn't built for everyone. For millions of people, its reliance on interest (riba) creates a barrier to managing money and building wealth without compromising their values.   At Wahed, we're changing that. We are a global fintech company on a mission to build a new financial system—one that is ethical, accessible, and entirely interest-free. From our offices across the globe, our team is building products that were once deemed impossible, from pioneering Shariah-compliant equity ETFs, creating true riba-free alternatives to high yield savings accounts, to creating no-leverage real estate investments for truly interest-free income producing assets. If you're driven to solve complex problems and believe finance should empower, not exclude, join us in building a more equitable financial future.     Job Brief: We are looking for savvy Data Engineers to join our growing team of analytics experts in Asia. They will be responsible for building, expanding and optimizing our data systems and data pipeline architecture, as well as optimizing data flow and collection for cross functional teams and various business departments. They need to be experienced data system builders, have worked on 100s of ETL jobs and be data wranglers who enjoy optimizing data systems and building them from the ground up.
They will also ensure optimal data delivery architecture is consistent throughout ongoing projects. We are looking for candidates that are self-motivated and eager to learn new technologies, work well both within a team and on their own, and have an attention to detail.Job Description:
  • Build and maintain a centralised data system consisting of an optimally built data pipeline architecture, data warehouse, data lake and data hubs

  • Build analytics tools and reports that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics
  • Work with various stakeholders and teams at Wahed to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs
  • Keep our data separated and secure across national boundaries through multiple data centers and AWS regions
  • Create data tools for Product team members that assist them in building and optimizing our product into an innovative industry leader
    • Job Specification:
  • At least 3 to 5 years of Data Engineering experience
  • A degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems or another quantitative field
  • Strong Python coding skills
  • Advanced SQL skills
  • Experience with ‘big data’ data systems, pipelines, architectures, data sets and ETL tools
  • Comfortable performing root cause analysis to answer specific business data questions and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Comfortable working in a Linux environment
  • Familiar with AWS
  • Familiar with noSQL databases such as Elasticsearch and event-streaming platforms such as Kafka
  • Strong analytical skills related to working with complex and non-structured datasets.
  • Experience in creating and improving processes that support data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management
  • Strong communicator, project management and organizational skills
  • Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
  • Understand the trade-offs in employing different engineering solutions to a problem, valuing pragmatism over idealism
  • Eager and open to learning.
