About the role

We are looking for a Senior Director of Technology who can simultaneously hold the big picture and get their hands dirty in the codebase. This is not a purely managerial role; you will be expected to be a respected technical voice in architecture discussions, contribute code to critical systems, and make consequential decisions about how Invisia's platform is built and scaled.

As our first dedicated engineering leader, you will shape the culture, processes, and technical standards of the entire engineering org. You will work closely with the founding team to translate product ambitions into reliable, scalable systems, and you will be the person who ensures the team can execute with consistency and speed as we grow.

The candidate will have responsibilities across the following functions:

Technical Leadership and Architecture:

  • Set and own the overall technical vision for Invisia's platform; make the key architectural calls on scalability, reliability, and tech stack.
  • Regularly contribute code to critical subsystems, not just review; stay close enough to the codebase to make informed decisions.
  • Lead architecture review sessions; establish standards for code quality, system design, and engineering documentation.
  • Own the platform& #39 s non-functional requirements: uptime SLAs, latency targets, security posture, and compliance requirements.

Team Building and People Management:

  • Own the end-to-end engineering hiring pipeline, define roles, set the bar, and close senior candidates.
  • Build engineering org structure as the team scales; define team topology, ownership boundaries, and escalation paths.
  • Mentor engineering leads and create clear growth paths for the broader team.
  • Run effective performance reviews, 1:1s, and career conversations that retain top talent.

Delivery and Operations:

  • Own engineering OKRs and delivery SLAs; ensure the team ships predictably and learns from misses
  • Act as the primary escalation point for production incidents; lead postmortems with a focus on systemic fixes over blame
  • Drive vendor and infra contracting decisions; own the engineering P& amp; L and make cost- performance trade-offs

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with Product to translate roadmaps into technical plans with realistic timelines.
  • Partner with the Sales and Marketing teams on partner integrations and technical requirements.
  • Drive security, payments, and compliance initiatives in close coordination with legal and finance.

Requirements:

  • Full-stack engineering breadth, backend, frontend, mobile, and cloud infra; you should be able to sit in any technical discussion and add immediate value.
  • 12+ years of engineering experience, with at least 5 years in leadership roles managing other engineers.
  • Hands-on experience with microservices architecture, event-driven systems, AWS (or equivalent cloud), CI/CD pipelines, and observability tooling.
  • Direct experience integrating payment gateways and building for financial reliability and compliance.
  • Proven track record of taking a product from early-stage to scale, you've navigated the messiness of growth before.
  • Strong hiring instincts, you know how to assess engineers at all levels and build a team with the right mix of skills and culture.

Nice to Have:

  • Prior experience at a marketplace, booking platform, or fintech company.
  • Startup exit experience (as a key engineering leader through acquisition or IPO).
  • Hands-on Kubernetes experience and familiarity with container orchestration at scale.
  • Exposure to ML/data engineering workloads.
