About the role
Role Overview
As a Excitation Systems Engineer, you will support the design, testing, and field support of excitation control systems for synchronous generators. This is an ideal role for an early-career engineer looking to develop deep technical expertise in power plant control systems, working closely with experienced engineers to ensure reliable system engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineering Support:Assist in the preparation of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications for excitation cubicles low to high rating generators of Hydro, Steam, Gas plants etc.
- Control Logic:Participate in the review and modification of control software logic (function blocks and ladder logic) under the guidance of senior staff.
- Testing & Validation:Support factory acceptance testing (FAT) and assist with site commissioning, including checking field wiring and performing signal loop checks.
- Coordination:Participate to technical discussion with customers and vendors and Participate to engineering Optimization, Standardization & Simplification efforts & Establish tools, template & processes to enable faster turnaround and improve productivity.
- Documentation:Maintain project technical files, update "as-built" documentation, and assist in drafting technical reports for clients.
- Problem-Solving:Help troubleshoot minor control system issues by analyzing alarm logs and event records from the excitation controller.
Required Qualifications
- Education:Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience:1–2 years of professional experience in an electrical engineering role (internships and co-ops will be considered).
- Technical Skills:
- Foundational knowledge of power systems and rotating machinery (synchronous generators).
- Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, EPLAN) for electrical schematics.
- Basic understanding of control theory and feedback systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical wiring diagrams and logic flowcharts.
- Soft Skills:High attention to detail, eagerness to learn complex control systems, and strong verbal and written communication skills.
Desired Characteristics
- Knowledge of different electrical codes / standards for designing the excitation system & elsewise.
- Knowledge of engineering tools e.g., AutoCAD, E3 for electrical design, Inventor for Mechanical design etc.
- Exposure to industrial control systems (PLCs, DCS, or specific excitation controller platforms).
- Basic programming skills or experience with simulation software (MATLAB/Simulink).
- Willingness to travel to power plant sites for commissioning support (typically 10–25% travel).
