About the role
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager - Backend to lead and scale our core backend engineering team in Pune. In this role, you will be the technical anchor and people manager for a team of talented backend engineers responsible for the high-performance engines driving our EMR platform.
You will drive the architecture and delivery of scalable services, balancing technical strategy with team growth. You must have a deep background in the Java ecosystem, event-driven architecture, and distributed systems, allowing you to mentor senior staff engineers, guide architectural decisions, and ensure our backend infrastructure remains robust as we scale.
Responsibilities:
- Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team of backend engineers.
- Foster a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Manage the full employee lifecycle, including hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development.
- Conduct regular 1-on-1s to provide feedback, coaching, and support, helping engineers grow from individual contributors to technical leaders.
- Own the delivery roadmap for core backend services and APIs.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, meeting strict SLA and quality standards.
- Collaborate with Product Managers to plan sprints, estimate efforts, and manage priorities in an Agile environment.
- Identify bottlenecks in the development process and drive improvements in engineering velocity, specifically focusing on build times, deployment pipelines, and code review cycles.
- Serve as a key liaison to stakeholders outside of engineering, including Product, Customer Success, Sales, and Leadership teams.
- Translate complex technical roadmaps and backend constraints into business-impact language for non-technical partners.
- Manage expectations, provide transparent progress updates, and negotiate delivery timelines to align with broader business objectives.
- Provide deep technical oversight on backend architecture, specifically regarding Java, Spring Framework and Event-Driven systems.
- Champion best practices in backend development, including API design standards, microservices patterns, and complex workflow orchestration.
- Ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of the platform by overseeing technical debt reduction and infrastructure improvements.
