About the role
We are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our backend engineering team. You will own the delivery, quality, and technical direction of the services that power our platform, while growing and supporting the engineers on your team. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes deep ownership of outcomes, and is equally comfortable shaping architecture and shaping people
You will partner closely with product, design, and other engineering teams to translate business goals into reliable, scalable systems and to build a team that consistently ships high-quality software.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of backend engineers, setting clear goals and supporting their career development.
- Own the planning, execution, and on-time delivery of backend projects with high quality and reliability.
- Drive technical direction and architecture for backend services built on Java and Spring Boot.
- Stay hands-on where it matters, reviewing code, unblocking the team, and setting a high engineering bar.
- Establish and improve engineering practices around code quality, testing, observability, and system reliability.
- Collaborate with product and cross-functional stakeholders to define priorities and roadmaps.
- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement within the team.
Requirements:
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong track record building backend systems.
- At least 1 year of leadership experience leading projects, tech leading, or managing a team.
- Strong, hands-on expertise in Java and Spring Boot (required).
- High ownership: you take responsibility for outcomes end-to-end and hold a high bar for yourself and your team.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with shifting priorities.
- Solid grounding in system design, distributed systems, APIs, and databases.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across functions.
