Job Description

Role

FinOps Lead / SME

Location

Hyderabad, India – Client Location

Experience

10-13 years – Level 6

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a strong FinOps Lead / FinOps SME with proven experience in cloud financial management, cost governance, budget control, tagging strategy, optimization governance, reporting and stakeholder advisory in enterprise cloud environments. The role will operate within the client CCoE and will be responsible for defining how cloud costs are governed, allocated, tracked, optimized and reported across business units, platforms and programs. The candidate should be strong in Azure cost management today, with enough awareness of AWS cost constructs to support future multi-cloud evolution. This is not a billing analyst role; it is a senior governance and advisory role that should be capable of establishing FinOps operating practices, guiding delivery and platform teams, and helping leadership take informed decisions on cloud spending, accountability and optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the FinOps vision for the client CCoE, ensuring cloud cost management is embedded into architecture, platform design, operations and transformation decisions.
  • Act as the senior FinOps authority for cost governance model, tagging standards, budgeting framework, cost visibility, optimization guardrails, review cadence and financial accountability.
  • Work with CCoE Head, Enterprise Architect, Lead Cloud Architect, Delivery Ops Architect, platform teams and business stakeholders to translate cloud adoption into financially governed execution.
  • Establish a repeatable operating rhythm for cost reviews, budget variance analysis, optimization recommendations, exception handling, chargeback / showback discussions and leadership reporting.
  • Define the cloud cost governance model covering cost allocation structure, tagging standards, ownership mapping, business-unit level visibility, budget controls and optimization policy guidance.
  • Design and recommend showback / chargeback approaches, cost-center alignment model, subscription / account financial ownership view and reporting hierarchy for cloud spend accountability.
  • Establish FinOps standards for resource tagging, naming alignment inputs, environment classification, cost attribution quality and governance checks required for meaningful reporting and control.
  • Create optimization governance mechanisms covering rightsizing, idle resource elimination, storage tiering, reservation / savings plan strategy inputs, license optimization and consumption pattern review.
  • Assess cloud spend trends, identify optimization opportunities, highlight leakage areas, and provide structured recommendations to business, platform and delivery stakeholders.
  • Support migration and modernization programs by contributing cost baselines, target-state cost modelling inputs, migration financial considerations and post-migration cost control guidance.
  • Recommend FinOps tooling and reporting approaches across Azure Cost Management, native cloud tools and relevant third-party FinOps or reporting solutions where needed.
  • Contribute to governance forums by presenting cloud cost insights, risks, optimization opportunities, budget impacts and decision points in business-friendly language.

Technical Experience

  • 10-13 years of overall IT experience with strong depth in cloud financial management, cloud governance, cost optimization, reporting and stakeholder advisory.
  • Strong practical knowledge of Azure cost management constructs including subscriptions, management groups, resource tagging, budgets, s, cost analysis, reservations, savings options and chargeback / showback considerations.
  • Good awareness of AWS pricing and cost governance concepts to support future-ready FinOps discussions in a multi-cloud direction if required.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise cloud consumption models across IaaS, PaaS, shared services, backup, networking, platform services, storage and observability-related spend patterns.
  • Experience designing and governing tagging standards, cost allocation model, budget controls, forecasting methods and financial reporting structures for large cloud environments.
  • Strong knowledge of optimization levers such as rightsizing, autoscaling considerations, reserved capacity planning, storage optimization, schedule-based controls, orphan-resource cleanup and licensing awareness.
  • Experience supporting cloud migration and modernization programs from a cost perspective, including baseline assessment, target cost estimation inputs, migration wave financial considerations and post-migration optimization tracking.
  • Ability to analyse spend data, identify anomalies, interpret usage patterns, highlight inefficiencies and convert findings into actionable business and technology recommendations.
  • Exposure to FinOps operating frameworks, cost governance controls, cloud financial accountability models and interaction with procurement / finance / technology stakeholders.
  • Experience recommending or using reporting and visualization approaches for cloud cost transparency, trend analysis, unit economics and executive review dashboards.
  • Good understanding of architecture and platform decisions that influence cloud cost outcomes, including landing zone design, shared services model, resilience choices, data transfer patterns and environment sprawl risks.

Process Skills

  • Strong ability to establish FinOps operating model, review cadence, ownership boundaries, exception process and financial governance checkpoints within a CCoE-led engagement model.
  • Experience supporting advisory, assessment or transformation programs where cost governance had to be built into architecture, migration, platform enablement and service onboarding.

Behavioral Skills

  • Strong communication and stakeholder presentation skills, with the ability to explain cloud spend and optimization logic clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical thinking and structured problem solving with attention to financial detail, trends, anomalies and control gaps.

Certification / Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering / finance-related discipline or equivalent.
  • FinOps Certified Practitioner preferred; higher FinOps certifications or equivalent cloud financial management credentials will be an added advantage.
  • Relevant Azure / AWS certification such as Azure Administrator Associate or Azure Solutions Architect Expert will be an added advantage.
  • Exposure to cloud cost governance or financial analytics tooling certifications will be beneficial.
