About the role
- Establish diagnostics direction, standards, and governance for all vehicle systems and platforms.
- Manage diagnostics requirements from initial concept through to SOP/release, including change control, versioning, and readiness for release.
- Specify ECU diagnostics in accordance with ISO 14229 (UDS), guaranteeing uniform implementation of services, DTCs, DIDs, routines, sessions, and security access.
- Take ownership of diagnostics data artefacts (ODX/PDX, CDD, DDT), ensuring completeness, consistency, and accuracy across ECUs and suppliers.
- Validate diagnostics packages for use in engineering, manufacturing, and aftersales tools, acting as the technical reference and authority.
- Lead diagnostics communication via CAN (DoCAN) and Ethernet/DoIP, ensuring compatibility with network architecture and performance requirements.
- Support and validate flashing/reprogramming, coding/configuration, as well as high-bandwidth diagnostics use cases.
- Define and support manufacturing/EOL diagnostics, including the vehicle “birth process”, flashing/coding/configuration, and oversee plant diagnostics process standards.
- Ensure after sales/service diagnostics readiness by developing and maintaining aftersales diagnostics guides and process standards, such as guided fault finding and service repair support.
- Serve as the technical approver for supplier diagnostics specifications and deliveries, leading design reviews and resolving complex integration issues.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams (Architecture, Network, Validation, Manufacturing, Aftersales, Project), mentor engineers, and promote best practices.
Qualifications & Skills
- Significant experience in vehicle ECU diagnostics and diagnostics data delivery throughout programme phases.
- Familiarity with ISO 14229 (UDS) and common in-vehicle diagnostic transports (DoCAN, DoIP).
- Practical experience with diagnostics data artefacts and related tools (ODX/PDX, CDD, DDT).
- Experience in supporting flashing/reprogramming, coding/configuration, and manufacturing/EOL operations.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage suppliers, and drive standardisation and governance.
