About the role
Role Purpose
The Life Cycle Engineer – MSG-3 will support the development, optimisation and management of aircraft engine maintenance programmes by applying MSG-3 methodology, reliability analysis, in-service performance data and lifecycle engineering judgement. The role focuses on ensuring safe, reliable, compliant and cost-effective maintenance solutions across the product lifecycle, while supporting maintenance policy definition, task optimisation, issue resolution and continuous improvement for Civil Aerospace operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform MSG-3 analysis to define, justify and optimise scheduled maintenance tasks for aircraft engines, systems and components.
- Support development and update of Maintenance Review Board Report (MRBR), Maintenance Planning Document (MPD), task cards and associated maintenance programme inputs.
- Analyse in-service data, reliability trends, deterioration mechanisms, operational feedback and maintenance findings to identify opportunities for maintenance optimisation.
- Contribute to the definition and management of maintenance policies, inspection requirements, acceptance criteria and technical instructions.
- Support lifecycle modelling, reliability assessment and cost-benefit evaluation to ensure maintenance solutions remain safe, compliant and commercially effective.
- Work with design, service engineering, airworthiness, technical publications, operators, suppliers and customer-facing teams to resolve maintenance-related technical issues.
- Assess proposed changes to maintenance tasks, intervals, thresholds and inspection requirements using engineering judgement, data analysis and regulatory considerations.
- Prepare technical justifications, reports, decision papers and recommendations for stakeholder review and approval.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce disruption, improve availability, minimise lifecycle cost and enhance maintainability.
- Ensure compliance with applicable aviation regulations, customer requirements, internal engineering standards and industry best practices.
Required Knowledge and Experience
- Good understanding of MSG-3 methodology and its application to scheduled maintenance programme development.
- Experience in maintenance optimisation, reliability engineering, lifecycle engineering, in-service support or continued airworthiness activities.
- Knowledge of civil aerospace maintenance documentation such as MRBR, MPD, AMM, CMM, IPC, SBs and technical instructions.
- Understanding of aircraft engine systems, components, failure modes, deterioration mechanisms and maintenance drivers.
- Ability to interpret engineering data, reliability data, operational feedback and maintenance records to support technical decisions.
- Awareness of aviation regulatory frameworks and continued airworthiness requirements such as EASA, FAA or equivalent standards.
- Experience working with cross-functional engineering, support, supplier, customer or operator teams.
- Strong technical writing capability with the ability to produce clear justifications, reports and recommendations.
Qualification Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Aerospace, Mechanical, Aeronautical, Systems Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Relevant experience in aircraft engine maintenance, reliability, service engineering, technical publications, MRO, lifecycle engineering or continued airworthiness.
- MSG-3 training or practical exposure to MSG-3 analysis is preferred.
- Knowledge of data analysis tools, reliability methods or maintenance optimisation techniques would be an advantage.
Key Skills and Competencies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work on complex and ambiguous technical issues.
- Sound engineering judgement and ability to balance safety, compliance, cost, reliability and operational impact.
- Ability to influence technical decisions and communicate effectively with stakeholders at different levels.
- Good understanding of maintenance planning, service operations and product support environments.
- Structured approach to documentation, configuration control and evidence-based decision making.
- Collaborative mindset with experience supporting cross-functional teams.
- Commitment to safety, quality, continuous improvement and customer outcomes.
