Senior Mainframe QA Engineer / Mainframe QA Lead

Hyderabad, Telangana, India (On-site / Hybrid)

6+ years in Quality Assurance / Testing, with strong hands‑on experience in Mainframe environments.

• Mainframe Technologies
• COBOL, JCL, CICS
• DB2, VSAM, TSO/ISPF
• Batch processing, scheduling (JCL utility jobs, cataloged procedures)
• Utilities: SORT, file management, datasets, tapes, etc.
• Testing Tools & Utilities
• SPUFI, QMF, File‑AID, Control‑M or equivalent scheduling tools
• BlueZone / terminal emulator tools for mainframe screen interaction
• Changeman / Endevor / other mainframe configuration/change management tools
• DB / SQL Skills
• DB2 query writing, tuning
• Data validation, ability to work with relational/non‑relational data as needed
• Automation (if applicable / bonus)
• Shell scripting, REXX or other scripting languages for automation of mainframe QA tasks
• Test automation tools that can interface with mainframe / batch jobs (if used)
• Domain / Regulatory Knowledge
• Financial / Banking / Payment domain preferred (if the role is in such sector)
• Understanding of transaction workflows, reconciliation, settlements etc.
• Methodologies and Processes
• Agile / Scrum / Kanban experience
• Experience in test planning, test case design, defect management
• Strong root cause analysis and debugging skills

• Analyze business / functional requirements and system specifications to plan mainframe QA activities.
• Design and write test cases / test scripts for mainframe batch jobs, applications, and interfaces.
• Execute testing of mainframe programs: both manual and automated (if applicable) — including batch/job runs, CICS screens, DB2 / VSAM database validations, JCL jobs.
• Schedule, monitor, and validate batch jobs; ensure that jobs run correctly in production / non‑production environments. Handle job failures, abends / job restarts.
• Use tools like File‑AID, SPUFI, QMF etc. to inspect data, validate reporting, compare datasets.
• Perform integration, system, regression, and user‑acceptance testing.
• Identify, report, track defects. Participate in root cause analysis and ensure fixes.
• Ensure test coverage, prepare test data, set up test environments.
• Collaborate with developers, business analysts, operations, and other stakeholders to ensure quality deliverables.
• Mentor and guide junior QA/testers in mainframe testing best practices.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies; estimate efforts; report status, metrics (defects, coverage, test progress etc.).
