Engineering Manager / Project Lead

1. Position Summary

The Mechanical Design Engineer will support product design and development, product improvement, and continuous engineering activities throughout the product lifecycle. The role is responsible for converting technical and market requirements into robust, manufacturable, reliable, and cost-effective mechanical solutions. The engineer will create and maintain 3D models, assemblies, 2D drawings, product data, and engineering documentation while working closely with cross-functional and global stakeholders to take projects from concept and feasibility through implementation, validation, industrialization, and release to market.

2. Key Responsibilities

Design and develop mechanical parts, subassemblies, and complete product assemblies in line with functional, performance, quality, cost, and schedule requirements.

Create and maintain accurate parametric 3D models, assemblies, manufacturing drawings, installation drawings, and related design documentation using Creo.

Interpret product requirements, specifications, legacy drawings, and engineering inputs, and translate them into practical design solutions.

Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), datum strategies, fits, tolerances, and tolerance stack-up principles to ensure function, interchangeability, and manufacturability.

Perform design modifications and continuous engineering activities, including product enhancements, obsolescence resolution, localization, corrective actions, quality improvements, and cost optimization.

Design plastic and metal components with appropriate consideration for material selection, wall thickness, draft, ribs, bosses, bends, forming limits, machining allowances, fastening, joining, and assembly requirements.

Evaluate manufacturing feasibility for injection moulding, stamping, machining, fabrication, and assembly processes in collaboration with manufacturing teams, suppliers, and tooling experts.

Apply Design for Manufacturing and Design for Assembly principles to improve product quality, assembly efficiency, serviceability, and overall production readiness.

Create, update, and release drawings, Bills of Materials, part attributes, revisions, and engineering change records in PDM/PLM systems in accordance with configuration-management requirements.

Support prototype planning, sample builds, design reviews, technical risk identification, testing, verification, validation, qualification, and release activities.

Participate in root-cause analysis and problem-solving for design, manufacturing, supplier, test, and field issues, and implement technically sound corrective and preventive actions.

Use quality and risk-management tools, as applicable, to identify failure modes, verify design robustness, and support compliance with product and process requirements.

Drive value engineering and cost-optimization initiatives through design simplification, material optimization, part consolidation, alternate processes, localization, and supplier collaboration.

Prepare clear technical reports, design-review presentations, calculations, test observations, and project-status updates for stakeholders.

Collaborate effectively with global and cross-functional teams including project management, industrialization, manufacturing, quality, testing, sourcing, suppliers, marketing, and other engineering disciplines.

Own assigned engineering deliverables and ensure timely closure of actions, risks, documentation, and approvals through implementation and release to market.

3. Required Skills and Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.

Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience in mechanical product design and development, including continuous engineering or product lifecycle support.

Hands-on proficiency in PTC Creo for part modelling, assembly modelling, detailing, and engineering drawing creation in sheet metal and plastic. – (Mandatory skills)

Working knowledge of Product Data Management (PDM) or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems for document control, revisions, BOMs, and engineering changes.

Strong ability to read, interpret, create, and review engineering drawings and technical specifications.

Strong understanding and practical application of GD&T, tolerance analysis, fits, and datum schemes.

Good knowledge of manufacturing processes, including injection molding, stamping, machining, and mechanical assembly.

Familiarity with quality tools, engineering risk assessment, value engineering, and cost-optimization methods.

Strong analytical and structured problem-solving capability, with attention to technical detail and product quality.

Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain design decisions and technical risks to diverse stakeholders.

Ability to manage multiple engineering priorities, work independently, and deliver within agreed quality and schedule commitments.

Ability to work effectively in cross-functional and global teams from concept through implementation and market release.

4. Preferred Skills

Hands-on experience in the design of plastic parts, sheet-metal parts, machined components, stamped parts, and mixed-material assemblies.

Knowledge of mould, die, press-tool, fixture, and other production-tooling concepts.

Experience conducting design and manufacturing feasibility assessments with plants, suppliers, or tooling partners.

Exposure to BOM management, configuration control, revision management, and engineering change workflows in PLM/PDM systems.

Understanding of product reliability, design verification, validation, qualification testing, and compliance requirements.

Experience with DFM, DFA, tolerance stack-up, design reviews, root-cause analysis, and corrective-action methodologies.

Exposure to supplier technical discussions, prototype builds, pilot production, and production issue resolution.

Experience in electromechanical or industrial products will be an advantage.
