Job Purpose

Promotes and restores patients' health by completing the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; providing physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families; supervising assigned team members.

Essential duties and responsibilities

·Provide professional nursing care with an assigned unit according to established standards and procedures.

·Provide comprehensive care to assigned patients.

·Follows policy and delivers designated nursing interventions to assigned patients that are consistent with the documented medical plan of care.

·Takes the nursing history, summarizes data and states nursing diagnoses / patient care needs.

·Organize and maintain patient file and reports as per the MRD requirements in all shifts.

·Always greet with smile to patient and companion for their well-being.

·Be groomed always.

·Observes and records signs, symptoms and behaviours including the physiological status of patients’ reports, assessment changes to the concerned authority.

·Ensure smooth functioning of admission, discharge and transfer procedures and assists others with patients’ activities and care with collaborative manner.

·Follow handover-takeover process accurately with written/online notes.

·Ensure introduction of next shift team member to patient and patient side medication check in each shift.

·Executes physician’s orders for all assigned patients safely and properly administers medications and treatments. Strictly adhere read back policy

·Ensure identification safety for collection of specimens during collection and till the report informed to consultant.

·Participate in consultant’s rounds and assist by giving relevant information based on nursing assessment/reassessment and observations.

·Carry out routine check at each handover that all equipments are in working order.

·Keep equipments in charging.

·Ensure that all items used for patients inclusive of medications, surgical supplies are duly recorded and charged.

·Ensure during internal transfer except the ordered medicine all other drug to be returned before shifting to other unit.

·Maintain patients and accompanies safety by taking preventive measures against accidents.

·Accurately records and reports incidents.

·Ensure every error to be recorded.

·Ensure strict infection control protocol and bio-waste guidelines to be followed for 24x7.

·Ensure that daily briefing points and sign off are mandatory for day to day update.

Specific Unit Related Nursing Care:

·Monitors vital signs and report abnormality.

·Initiates and maintains Thermal Stabilization.

·Observes symptoms/laboratory values that may indicate temperature instability.

·Initiates Phototherapy and monitors during the procedure.

·Demonstrate/verbalize correct calculation of emergency medications.

·Assist the physician with intubation and stabilization of tube placement.

·Administers correct dosage of routine admission medications.

·Identifies feeding status (NPO, nipple, breastfeeding).

·Prepares appropriate feeding using clean technique.

·Assess suck and swallow during nipple feed.

·Demonstrate/verbalize appropriate breastfeeding techniques.

·Educates parents on breast feeding, bonding and home care.

·Give appropriate nursing care to a neonate on ventilator.

·Assist in ventilator tubing change and setting change.

·Have full knowledge about the common diagnostic procedures done for neonate.

·Have basic knowledge of common diseases found in neonate.

·IPSG/GCS – Prepare Nursing care plan, deliver and document.

·Accurate I/O chart

·Monitor patient on ventilator.

·Transportation of Neonate to other Facility

·Responsible to carry out – Critical Value Protocol 

·Any other jobs assigned by superior.
