About the role

Rocket Engineering Intern – PropulsionDepartment: Development and Production/ Propulsion & TestingLocation: NoidaType: Internship – 6 MonthsAbout the RoleAs a Propulsion Intern, you’ll work closely with the propulsion engineering team to design, simulate, and test solid rocket motors and propulsion subsystems. You’ll be involved in the full lifecycle — frompropellant formulation and motor design to static-fire testing and performance analysis. If you’re passionate about combustion, thermodynamics, and experimental rocketry — this is yourchance to get real hands-on experience.Key Responsibilities1. Motor Design & Simulation• Design and size solid rocket motors (grain geometry, nozzle design, casing).• Run performance simulations using NASA CEA, OpenMotor, and MATLAB.• Predict thrust, chamber pressure, and burn profiles for various propellant formulations.• Optimize motor configurations for thrust efficiency and reliability.2. Propellant Preparation & Handling• Assist in propellant mixing, casting, and curing under supervision.• Maintain safety protocols for handling energetic materials and test setups.• Document formulations, curing cycles, and quality control results.3. Testing & Data Analysis• Support static-fire test preparation, including setup of test stands, sensors, and DAQsystems.• Operate and monitor thrust measurement instrumentation during testing.• Analyse thrust curves, chamber pressure, and thermal data post-test.• Assist in failure analysis and optimization of burn efficiency.4. Documentation & Reporting• Maintain detailed logs of design parameters, propellant batches, and test results.• Prepare SOPs, safety documents, and technical reports.• Participate in post-test reviews and recommend improvements for future builds.Skills RequiredTechnical• Strong fundamentals in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and combustion.• Familiarity with solid propulsion systems and nozzle theory.• Proficiency with NASA CEA, OpenMotor, and MATLAB.• Basic knowledge of instrumentation, DAQ systems, and sensor calibration.• Understanding of composite materials and motor casing design preferred.Soft Skills• Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.• Safety-conscious and disciplined work approach.• Proactive learning attitude and team collaboration.• Effective documentation and technical reporting skills.Eligibility• B.Tech / B.E / Diploma in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering.• Prior experience with propulsion testing or model rocketry is highly preferred.• Final-year students or fresh graduates can apply. What You Will Gain• Hands-on experience in solid rocket motor design, fabrication, and testing.• Exposure to real propulsion experiments and static fire operations.• Mentorship from propulsion and combustion specialists.• Opportunity to contribute to mission-critical propulsion development.• PPO opportunity based on technical and safety performance.
