About the role
- Architect, build and deploy complex backend features and services using Ruby on Rails.
- Design robust database schemas and handle complex data migrations.
- Make thoughtful architectural decisions as our backend evolves.
- Own medium-to-large backend deliveries from design through deployment.
- Improve backend performance, scalability and operational efficiency.
- Build application-level controls such as API rate limiting and traffic management.
- Implement strong logging, monitoring and alerting.
- Lead root-cause analysis and help resolve production issues quickly.
- Maintain high engineering standards through rigorous code reviews.
- Build and maintain robust automated test suites.
- Proactively identify and reduce technical debt.
- Follow secure coding practices and safeguard sensitive user data.
- Explore and build AI-enabled development workflows.
- Help standardise tools and practices that can make engineering faster and more effective.
- Identify repetitive engineering work that can be automated.
- Mentor junior engineers and raise the team's technical bar.
- Work closely with Product, Frontend and other stakeholders to turn business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Improve CI/CD and contribute to infrastructure and deployment improvements.
- Bring new ideas and influence how the team thinks about development.
