About the role

Role Overview Role:

We are looking for a Senior Customer Success Manager, Quantum Adoption & Technical Enablement to join a dynamic, cross functional team dedicated to driving IonQ's mission of delivering exceptional experiences for our customers. In this role, you will be IonQ's primary customer facing technical expert, going hands on with customers to drive real adoption of our trapped ion quantum computers.

You will bridge deep platform and quantum algorithm expertise with customer empathy, guiding organisations through performance optimisation, circuit design and workflow integration as they build on IonQ's platform. As a trusted technical advisor, this position offers a high visibility opportunity to influence and inspire highly technical internal and external stakeholders, ensuring they have the best possible experience on our platform. Scientific expertise and hands on credibility, combined with exceptional communication skills, are central to success in this role.

Responsibilities:

You will facilitate adoption for major accounts, from translating contract terms into technical provisioning through to leading onboarding and managing day to day technical engagement. You will guide customers on best practice for quantum circuits, applications and workflows, working closely with quantum compiler and system experts, and remove the barriers that stand between a customer and real use of the platform.

You will also act as the primary internal advocate for the user perspective across Product, Cloud Platform, Data Engineering and Ops, on topics ranging from specific UI and UX design to high level platform architecture. You will collaborate with Product Management, Product Marketing, Sales and Engineering to share technical customer insight on product functionality, documentation and educational material, and help refine term sheet language so customer expectations align with technical capability.

Externally, you will represent IonQ on standards bodies, government committees, quantum working groups, industry panels and other relevant forums, leading technical sessions and workshops at industry conferences. The role includes travel to customer sites and conferences, with evening or off hours meetings as needed to support global customers.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Technical onboarding and platform mastery: lead onboarding sessions and manage day to day technical engagement for major accounts.
  • Performance optimisation and circuit design: apply expertise in optimisation, machine learning and chemistry or materials simulation to guide customer circuits, applications and workflows.
  • Technical support and blocker removal: standardise troubleshooting workflows for job failures, set Customer Success best practice and provide direct, high touch support.
  • Curriculum and enablement content: create workshops, challenges and curricula, including code, circuits, slides and videos, built around real world industry challenges.
  • Data driven customer health: design and maintain dashboards tracking job metrics, system usage and customer health, and turn usage data into actionable technical intelligence.
Requirements:

You will hold a Master's or PhD in Physics, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Operations Research or a related STEM field, with a strong understanding of the physics concepts and mathematical techniques relevant to quantum computing, including linear algebra and probability. You will bring 5+ years of experience in technical customer facing roles or equivalent, with a proven track record of performance and goal achievement, and 3+ years creating customer facing technical content such as training material, success plans, playbooks and workflows.

You will have working knowledge of Jupyter Notebook, Google Colab or similar platforms, and a proven ability to teach complex topics to diverse audiences, tailoring curricula to customer needs across large lectures, smaller study sessions and one to one mentoring. Demonstrated experience in quantum information science, applications and algorithms is an advantage, as is familiarity with subscription and renewal business models and the ability to hold technical and business discussions across domains such as finance, pharmaceuticals and healthcare, chemistry, computer vision and operations research.

You’d be a great fit with:
  • Hands on experience with Python and quantum frameworks such as Qiskit, Cirq, PennyLane, CUDA Q or other quantum computing SDKs.
  • Exceptional technical and executive presentation skills, influencing audiences from researchers and end users to C suite executives.
  • In depth knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of different quantum computing hardware platforms and their hardware and software dependencies.
  • Experience with SaaS platforms, REST APIs or HPC systems.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience in data science or data analytics.
