About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Define and maintain standard Siemens PLC/HMI architecture for shot-blast machines, including reusable function blocks, data structures, alarms, recipes, diagnostics, and HMI templates.
- Develop and govern Siemens TIA Portal and WinCC Unified standards, including coding rules, naming conventions, project templates, library versioning, and release discipline.
- Support standardization of electrical design documentation, including safety matrices, sensor/actor/motor lists, circuit-diagram standards, hardware baselines, and commissioning documentation.
- Translate machine-safety requirements into practical controls concepts, including safety functions, manual/setup/automatic modes, interlocks, emergency stops, and validation evidence.
- Support compliance readiness for European machinery safety requirements, including the transition from Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC to Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230.
- Support cybersecurity-by-design for machine controls in line with the Cyber Resilience Act, including secure remote access, user/password concepts, network segmentation, backups, patching, and technical documentation.
- Work closely with electrical engineering, PLC programmers, mechanical engineering, product management, IT/OT, commissioning, service, and regional engineering teams to ensure adoption of the standard.
- Create training material, implementation guides, and reference projects so that the standard can be applied consistently across machine variants and regions.
Required Profile
- Senior-level experience in industrial automation, machine controls, or OEM machine building.
- Strong hands-on expertise with Siemens S7-1200 / S7-1500, TIA Portal, WinCC, and preferably WinCC Unified.
- Experience developing reusable PLC function blocks, HMI faceplates, standard libraries, templates, and version-controlled automation software.
- Good understanding of industrial machine safety, including ISO 12100, ISO 13849-1, safety matrices, F-PLC/Pilz systems, interlocks, and validation principles.
- Practical knowledge of electrical-control hardware, drives, sensors, actuators, PROFINET, industrial networks, and remote-support concepts.
- Familiarity with EPLAN P8 or comparable electrical design/documentation workflows.
- Awareness of European machinery compliance and OT cybersecurity requirements, especially Machinery Directive / Machinery Regulation and Cyber Resilience Act implications.
- Strong documentation discipline and ability to convert engineering know-how into repeatable standards.
- Field or commissioning experience with industrial machinery is strongly preferred.
Success Measures
- Standard Siemens PLC/HMI library released and actively used in projects.
- Clear machine-control architecture and project templates adopted by engineering teams.
- Safety-control documentation and validation evidence improved and standardized.
- WinCC Unified migration path established.
- Electrical and controls design variation reduced across shot-blast machine projects.
- Cybersecurity and European machinery-compliance requirements integrated into the standard engineering workflow.
