About the role
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES R&D Leadership: Lead and manage multidisciplinary engineering teams across electronics, embedded software, mechanical design, and robotics. Product Development: Drive end-to-end product development from concept, architecture, and prototyping to testing, production, deployment, and post-sale upgrades. Technical Architecture: Oversee system architecture, hardware-software integration, and engineering decisions for robotics and embedded systems. Project Management: Manage development timelines, resources, budgets, technical risks, and engineering deliverables. Field Evaluation: Lead field trials, operational validation, troubleshooting, and iterations toward commercial readiness and TRL 9 where applicable. Product Quality: Ensure product reliability, manufacturability, maintainability, and compliance with applicable engineering standards. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with manufacturing, quality, procurement, and business teams to align product design, manufacturing readiness, customer requirements, and field support. R&D Roadmap & Improvement: Translate product priorities and field feedback into engineering plans; establish KPIs, lead post-deployment improvements, and mentor engineers.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Robotics, or related engineering disciplines. 10 – 15 years of relevant engineering R&D or product development experience, including 2+ years leading engineers and owning engineering project delivery. Demonstrated ownership of at least one integrated hardware-software product through design, validation, and production handoff or commercial deployment. Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineers across electronics, embedded software, mechanical systems, and/or robotics. Strong technical depth in at least either electronics/ embedded software/ robotics discipline, with sound understanding of system architecture, integration, and product development processes. Demonstrated ability to manage engineering projects, technical challenges, field validation, and cross-functional collaboration. Strong leadership, project management, communication, and problem-solving skills. Willingness to participate in field evaluations and product validation activities.
PREFERRED SKILLS Experience in robotics, industrial automation, unmanned systems, or related electro-mechanical products. Familiarity with ROS/ROS 2, C/C++, Python, or Linux (any combination is an advantage). Experience with sensors, actuators, controllers, and embedded hardware/software integration. Exposure to marine robotics, underwater systems, ROVs, or AUVs. Experience in defence-grade product development, hardware certification, engineering standards, or startup environments.
IDEAL CANDIDATE A technically grounded leader able to direct the full R&D team and deliver reliable commercial products. Marine robotics experience is preferred, not mandatory. Engineering leadership and proven product delivery are essential.
