About the role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineering Manager to lead high-performing engineering teams building scalable, resilient, and cloud-native applications using the Java technology stack. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with proven people leadership skills, driving engineering excellence, delivery predictability, and team growth. This role requires a leader who can partner with product, architecture, and business stakeholders to deliver impactful solutions while fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
The candidate will have responsibilities across the following functions:
Engineering Leadership:
- Lead, mentor, and develop engineering teams, ensuring high levels of engagement and performance.
- Manage team capacity, hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, career development, and succession planning.
- Establish engineering best practices, coding standards, and operational excellence.
- Drive a culture of ownership, collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
Technical Leadership:
- Provide technical direction for the design and development of enterprise-scale applications using Java technologies.
- Review architecture and design decisions to ensure scalability, security, maintainability, and reliability.
- Guide teams in adopting modern software development practices, including microservices, cloud-native architectures, and DevOps principles.
- Collaborate with architects and senior engineers to define technical roadmaps.
Delivery Management:
- Own end-to-end delivery of complex projects and programs.
- Ensure timely execution of engineering initiatives while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Manage risks, dependencies, resource allocation, and stakeholder communication.
- Track and improve key engineering metrics related to quality, velocity, reliability, and operational excellence.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Partner with Product Managers, Architects, QA, DevOps, Security, and Business stakeholders.
- Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Drive strategic planning and execution across multiple teams.
The core requirements for the job include the following:
Leadership and Management:
- Minimum 3 years of experience managing software engineering teams.
- Demonstrated success in hiring, coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
- Experience leading teams of 8-20+ engineers.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
Technical Skills (Mandatory):
- Strong hands-on background in Java development.
- Deep understanding of: Java 8/11/17+, Spring Boot, Spring Framework, Microservices Architecture, RESTful APIs, Distributed Systems, Event-Driven Architecture, Multithreading and Concurrency, Design Patterns and SOLID Principles.
