About the role
Responsibilities:
- Lead backend architecture and system design for core data and marketing platforms.
- Make technical trade-offs regarding scalability, reliability, maintainability, and cost.
- Partner with product managers and business teams to refine requirements and align scope/timelines.
- Own stakeholder communication, risk management, and technical alignment.
- Lead post-incident reviews and implement resilience improvements.
- Design, develop, and deliver scalable, secure, high-performance backend systems.
- Analyse and understand existing legacy systems and their limitations.
- Write clean, well-documented, maintainable, and testable code.
- Champion Agile practices and participate in the full development lifecycle.
- Perform and participate in code reviews, ensuring quality standards.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers.
Requirements:
- 8+ years of experience designing and leading backend systems at scale.
- Strong experience with APIs (gRPC, REST).
- Proficiency in Go (preferred), Python/Django, or Java/Spring.
- Strong CI/CD and DevOps experience.
- Experience building cloud-based systems (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Strong experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with RDBMS and NoSQL databases.
- Ability to choose appropriate technologies considering cost and trade-offs.
- Experience across the full software development lifecycle.
- Ability to define SLAs, SLOs, and error budgets.
- Strong leadership in agile environments and mentoring.
- Familiarity with security best practices, encryption, access control, GDPR, and ISMS.
