Job Overview:
As a Staff / Senior Staff Engineer, Industrial Design, you will play a key role in translating innovative ideas into thoughtful, compelling, and production-ready products. This role is suited to an experienced industrial designer with strong capabilities in concept development, parametric and surface modelling, visualization, and design for manufacturing.
You will work closely with engineering teams, Technical Program Managers (TPMs), and external vendors throughout the product development lifecycle, from early concept exploration and design refinement through prototyping and production. The role requires a strong balance of creativity, technical understanding, attention to detail, and the ability to move quickly while maintaining design intent and product quality
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead industrial design activities from early concept generation through design refinement and production readiness.
- Generate and communicate product concepts through hand sketches, design narratives, and visual storytelling.
- Develop high-quality 3D concept and surface models in PTC Creo, exploring form, proportion, usability, and product aesthetics.
- Create photorealistic renderings and visualizations to clearly communicate design intent, materials, finishes, and product experience.
- Collaborate closely with engineering and CAD teams to translate design concepts into feasible, production-ready solutions while preserving design intent.
- Integrate manufacturing requirements, ergonomics, usability, materials, and CMF considerations into design decisions.
- Present concepts and design rationale to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders, incorporating feedback to progressively refine solutions.
- Create physical prototypes and mock-ups to evaluate form, ergonomics, usability, and design intent.
- Work with vendors and cross-functional teams during prototyping, design validation, and production development.
- Stay current with relevant materials, manufacturing technologies, finishes, design tools, and industry trends.
Mandatory Skills:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related discipline.
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in industrial design and new product development.
- Strong hand-sketching, ideation, and concept-development skills.
- Advanced proficiency in PTC Creo, including ISDX surfacing, with strong capability in complex geometry and surface modelling.
- Strong proficiency in KeyShot or equivalent visualization software, with the ability to produce high-quality, photorealistic representations of materials, finishes, and product concepts.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, CMF, ergonomics, and design-for-manufacturing principles.
- Portfolio demonstrating a range of innovative, commercially realized product designs and a strong understanding of form, proportion, detailing, and product aesthetics.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to balance design intent, technical constraints, manufacturability, and user needs.
- Ability to clearly articulate and defend design decisions with engineering teams, leadership, and other stakeholders.
- Self-driven and proactive, with the ability to manage priorities and independently drive design activities forward.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced product-development environment, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to evolving requirements.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Class-A surfacing and advanced surface modelling.
- Experience with physical prototyping, mock-up development, and 3D printing.
- Experience working directly with product-development and manufacturing vendors.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop and Illustrator.
- Exposure to CMF development, material selection, and finish specification.
