Team Lead - Fund Accounting

We are looking for experienced professionals in fund accounting, asset valuations, and investment operations to join a business-critical engagement in Bangalore. The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on experience in fund accounting, NAV calculation, NAV validation, asset valuation, and investment operations, with a strong preference for candidates having experience in private equity funds. Candidates with relevant hedge fund or mutual fund experience may also be considered.

The role requires strong people management, stakeholder management, and operational leadership capabilities, along with the ability to manage high-volume and complex fund accounting operations in a global environment. Candidates should be comfortable working in US/UK shifts, 100% RTO, and under the Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT) employment model.

The core responsibilities for the job include the following:

Fund Accounting and Asset Valuation:

• Manage and oversee end-to-end fund accounting operations for assigned investment funds.
• Perform/review NAV calculations and NAV validation activities.
• Review fund financial data, investment transactions, income, expenses, and other accounting entries.
• Ensure accurate and timely fund valuation and reporting.
• Review and validate pricing, valuation, and other investment-related activities.
• Identify and resolve NAV breaks, accounting discrepancies, and valuation issues.
• Ensure adherence to defined accounting policies, procedures, controls, and client SLAs.
• Support the accounting and valuation of various investment instruments and fund structures.
• Perform review and validation of fund-level reconciliations and accounting records.
• Ensure accurate processing of investment transactions and related accounting entries.

Investment Operations:

• Manage day-to-day investment operations supporting global investment funds.
• Oversee transaction processing, reconciliations, valuations, and exception management.
• Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve operational and accounting issues.
• Ensure timely completion of deliverables within agreed SLAs and quality standards.
• Drive process improvements, automation, and operational efficiencies wherever applicable.
• Support audits, client reviews, and other business requirements.

People and Team Management:

• Lead, mentor, and develop fund accounting professionals.
• Allocate work effectively and monitor team productivity and performance.
• Conduct regular performance reviews, coaching, and feedback sessions.
• Manage escalations and ensure timely resolution of operational issues.
• Build a strong team culture focused on quality, accuracy, controls, and client service.
• Support hiring, onboarding, training, and development of team members.
• Manage workforce planning and ensure adequate coverage for business requirements.

Stakeholder Management:

• Act as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders.
• Manage escalations and communicate operational risks/issues effectively.
• Participate in client/business reviews and governance meetings.
• Build strong working relationships with global teams and stakeholders.
• Ensure transparent communication on performance, risks, issues, and deliverables.

Requirements:

• Strong relevant experience in fund accounting/asset valuations/investment operations.
• Candidates should have demonstrable experience in NAV calculation, NAV validation, fund accounting, fund valuation, investment operations, team management, and stakeholder management
• Experience with private equity funds is highly preferred.
• Hedge fund and mutual fund experience may be considered based on relevance.
• Candidates must be able to clearly explain: Types of funds managed, nature and scope of their responsibilities, NAV calculation process, NAV validation process, fund valuation methodology/process, investment operations handled, team size and responsibilities.
• Minimum Qualification: Bachelor's Degree / Any Graduate.
• Preferred Qualifications: Commerce/accounting background, CA (Chartered Accountant), CMA (Cost and Management Accountant), and CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst).
• Strong relevant professional experience may be considered instead of a specific educational background, subject to business requirements.

Required Skills:

• Core Technical and Domain Skills: Fund Accounting, Asset Valuations, NAV Calculation, NAV Validation, Investment Operations, Fund Valuation, Financial/Investment Reconciliations, Exception and Break Management, Process and Risk Controls, Client/Stakeholder Management.
• Preferred: Private Equity Funds, First Preference, Hedge Funds, Mutual Funds.
• Candidates from mutual fund or hedge fund environments may be considered where they demonstrate strong and relevant fund accounting and NAV experience.

Team Lead Level:

• Minimum 4+ years of people/team handling experience.
• Experience managing approximately 10-15+ team members preferred.
• Strong operational and team leadership capabilities.
• Ability to manage performance, escalations, productivity, and delivery.
• Strong stakeholder management skills.

Associate Manager Level:

• Typically 6-8+ years of overall relevant experience, with strong leadership exposure.
• Strong people management and stakeholder management experience.
• Experience managing larger teams and complex operations.
• Experience managing 30+ team members preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple processes/workstreams and senior stakeholders.
• Strong operational governance and delivery management experience.

Mandatory Candidate Criteria:

• Candidates must meet the following requirements:
• Strong experience in fund accounting and/or asset valuations.
• Hands-on/review experience in NAV calculation and NAV validation.
• Relevant investment operations experience.
• Genuine people management experience for leadership positions.
