Job Title: Vehicle System Integration Powertrain Engineer
Location: Pune or Chennai
Positions: 4
Job Summary:
The Vehicle System Integration Powertrain Engineer is responsible for ensuring the seamless functional integration of all powertrain components (engine, transmission, driveline, and associated control units) within the overall vehicle system. This role focuses on optimizing the interaction between powertrain sub-systems, resolving cross-functional issues, and delivering robust powertrain performance, efficiency, and drivability from a holistic vehicle perspective.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead or support the integration of powertrain components and sub-systems (engine, transmission, driveline, and their respective ECUs/TCUs) into the vehicle architecture.
- Identify, diagnose, and resolve complex system-level issues that arise from the interaction between various powertrain components and other vehicle systems (e.g., body electronics, chassis, HMI).
- Perform vehicle-level testing, data acquisition, and analysis to validate powertrain system performance, drivability, fuel economy, and emissions.
- Utilize diagnostic tools, oscilloscopes, various sensors, and data logging software (e.g., ETAS INCA, CANape, Vector CANalyzer/CANoe) to monitor, analyze, and troubleshoot system behaviour.
- Collaborate closely with engine calibration, transmission calibration, software, hardware, and vehicle validation teams to ensure comprehensive powertrain functionality and meet program targets.
- Develop and execute test plans for powertrain integration validation, including but not limited to functional performance, diagnostics, and failure modes.
- Participate in root cause analysis of powertrain-related vehicle issues and drive corrective actions.
- Communicate technical issues, findings, and recommendations clearly to cross-functional teams and management.
- Stay abreast of new powertrain technologies, industry trends, and integration best practices..
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 3 years of experience in vehicle powertrain integration, system engineering, or a closely related field within the automotive industry.
- Strong understanding of gasoline and/or diesel engine principles, transmission operation (automatic, manual, electrified), and driveline components.
- Proficiency in using automotive diagnostic and data acquisition tools such as ETAS INCA, CANape, Vector CANalyzer/CANoe, oscilloscopes, thermal couples, and various automotive sensors.
- Solid knowledge of automotive communication protocols (e.g., CAN, FlexRay, LIN).
- Ability to analyze complex system interactions and effectively troubleshoot vehicle-level issues.
- Experience with vehicle testing, validation, and issue resolution processes.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with model-based system engineering (MBSE) tools or methodologies.
- Familiarity with automotive regulations and standards related to powertrain performance and emissions.
- Experience in a vehicle program development and launch environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration with diverse teams.
Work Environment:
- Primarily office-based with significant time spent in vehicle, test lab, and/or proving ground environments.
