About the role
Requirements:
- 5 to 7 years building and running backend systems in production, with at least 3 years in a typed language on a modern service framework (Node/TypeScript, Java, Go, Python).
- Strong relational database skills: schema design, indexing, query performance, transactions and isolation levels; able to explain why a migration is safe under load
- Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of at least one non-trivial system or service, including what it cost to operate it.
- Practical experience with API design, third-party integrations, idempotency, retries and failure handling.
- Comfort with cloud infrastructure and CI/CD; able to deploy, observe and debug own services independently.
- Testing as a default habit, not a compliance step.
- Clear written communication: design docs, PR descriptions and incident notes are part of the job.
- Evidence of lifting other engineers: mentoring, reviews, standards, or documentation people actually use.
Nice to Have:
- Fintech, lending, payments or insurance domain experience, especially anything involving ledgers, reconciliation or regulatory reporting.
- Exposure to Indian financial rails: UPI, NACH, payment gateways, NBFC or RBI reporting requirements.
- Healthcare billing, claims, TPA or hospital systems exposure.
- Event-driven architecture, queues and background job processing at scale.
- Experience in an early- or growth-stage startup where the spec was a conversation, not a document.
